Stimulus, Choice, Reaction, and Response
Thursday Jun 30, 2022
Thursday Jun 30, 2022
Ep #169 - The time between the stimulus and your action is where your choice exists. Your choice to react emotionally triggered/activated/cued or to respond emotionally grounded will determine the outcome of any interaction you are having in your life.
You know what it is like when someone goes half-cocked on you. Likewise, you know what it feels like when someone approaches you with an issue and they speak to you with kindness and calmness.
As people with a lived experience of substance use our emotional mind and rational mind can often betray us. Our homeostasis has been thrown out of whack. As we journey from sobriety to recovery it is up to us as individuals to focus on our own emotional homeostasis and in this episode I will give you very actionable practices to participate in each and everyday to help you heal and guide yourself to your highest sense of self - so you can choose emotionally grounded over emotionally reactive.
Just hit play and let's dive in with our open minds, hearts, and energies bringing everyone into the fold - you are in the right place, at the right time...right now.
It is time. It has been time. To live is to shine. Step into the SUN.
Stand up, step forward, raise your hand - it's your turn, I will call on you.

Empathy
Wednesday Jun 22, 2022
Wednesday Jun 22, 2022
Ep #168 - Empathy, what is it good for? Absolutely everything. As we all traverse the ebbs and flows of our own life journeys, we are consistently going to find ourselves in a place where someone will be in need or want of support and in these moments you are capable of being the person for them in that moment.
No doubt you have desired someone to be there for you, to be capable of stepping into the vulnerability required, as a human, who can and will create a connection with you when it is needed most.
This episode will deep dive you into why empathy is so important, what empathy is, and how you can start achieving your highest state of empathy today - all the while being sincere and honest with your care and concern.
If you want a world full of empathy, if you want your sobriety and recovery to be surrounded by empathetic souls - you first create the world you want to live and love in and watch the world, slowly perhaps or quickly, evolve with you.
*****************
Show notes I discuss in the episode...
Breńe Brown
- Perspective taking
- Staying out of judgment
- Recognizing emotions someone else is feeling
- Communicating that you understand an emotion
* Three types of Empathy
Cognitive: Simply knowing how the other person feels and what they might be thinking. * perspective-taking; perceptual positions
connecting their unfulfilled needs to needs you have had unfulfilled
Emotional: When you take on the feelings of the other person.
empaths: exude the emotions another person is sharing with you
Compassionate: We understand a person’s predicament AND feel with them; can be, spontaneously motivated to help them
people pleaser, volunteer

10 insights from 5 birthdays sober
Saturday Jun 18, 2022
Saturday Jun 18, 2022
Ep #167 - My 47th trip around the sun began this week and to celebrate I bring a list of insights evoked from my subconscious from this one sentence my co-trainer said during our most recent NLP training.
"You don’t see the world the way it is you see it the way you are."
From this statement came this list and now I share it with you. It was very literally a conscious stream of thought and my fingers typed as fast as my brain introduced each one. This list is in no way comprehensive and yet it is what my unconscious delivered to me from the depths - so clearly there is some divinity in these insights.
This is the way they came out of my head and through my fingers...what I do with them during this episode is dive deeper into them so we all can enjoy the insights I had on my 46th birthday. ENJOY!
You don’t see the world the way it is you see it the way you are.
- You give up what you want most for what you want now
- - if you don’t sacrifice for what you want, what you want becomes the sacrifice.
- Create the world you want to live around you
- Tomorrow is done. Learn from it, Release it, bring on today. (yes, I mean Yesterday)
- I have wasted more time creating bullsh*t stories and scenarios in my head and trying to figure out how to solve them than I care to admit
- Fearing rejection is creating a story in your head and then letting your imagination dictate your actions
- Not every decision I made played out the way I thought it would - it wasn’t wasted time, it was experience points.
- Waiting a year or two to feel ready is the hesitation that I will one day look back on and wonder…why?
- - the, “everything happens for a reason" and at the "perfect time" thing is cool and all but sometimes…sh*t man, get the f*ck up and do that thing!
- I don’t know everything. I can’t. That’s okay. Only my ego gets pissed about that and f*ck that dude.

Stigmas: language, thoughts, and behaviors
Tuesday May 31, 2022
Tuesday May 31, 2022
Ep #165 - Breaking the stigma of addiction. I have heard people use that phrase so often it has almost lost its meaning and strength to me. So, today we are going to dive into what stigmas are and how they are showing up in our society.
It is not just addiction where these stigmas live. Stigmas are circling around us every, single day, and you very well might be guilty of a few of them. Our minds have programming that runs our whole lives. These stigmatizing thoughts, feeling, and action are as ingrained into us as the breathing behavior of our body.
Once you are aware of the stigmas you place upon other people by way of your thinking, feelings, and actions you can shift yourself to being a momentum burst in the healing of stigmatizations of those we are unfamiliar. Rejecting, avoiding, and fearing is the old you. It is time to evolve.

Forgiveness & Expectations
Friday May 06, 2022
Friday May 06, 2022
Ep #162 - Forgiving yourself for an idea you had about your life and then not fulfilling that expectation is an important part of your sobriety and recovery journey. I have experienced the feeling of looking back on my life and beating myself up because I didn't achieve the hopes and dreams I had for myself when I was in high school. Some of you may have gotten into addiction before that even, maybe even middle school or younger, and from there your life went completely off the rails.
Life is what life is. What happens to us, whether because of your own decisions or actions, or because of others seeking to fulfill their needs at your expense, but that was then and this is now. You are older, wiser maybe, but certainly much more capable of knowing better and then choosing wisely from that seat of awareness.
Whatever you expected about or from your life then, that is then, this is now, and now is the time to choose to do better.
Sit in the fire of uncertainty and then choose to behave in a way that breaks you from the cycle of poor decisions. I choose to not have to ask myself for forgiveness in the future by keeping my word to myself and working my butt off to sit in the seat of uncomfortability in order to move through the undesirable feelings and emotions.
When I do this, I come out the other side of the emotional surge having accomplished an outcome that resolves what was upsetting me to begin with and creates within me the confidence to know I am capable of so much more than I was back when addiction ruled my life.

The Six Human Needs
Thursday Apr 28, 2022
Thursday Apr 28, 2022
Ep #161 - What motivated you to seek relief in addiction? What is powering you forward in your sobriety and recovery?
What was once your medicine became your poison and now it is time to reverse engineer what you did then and transform it into something beneficial now.
We all had a childhood. Traumas and sufferings happened to us and we internalized those the best we knew how based on the resources we had physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually as tinier, then we are today, humans.
Your trauma is not your fault and healing it is your responsibility. Knowing at a core level, as a deep unconscious inner-driver, what motivates you now, what motivated you then, and how you can use it as an offensive power source now...well, this will only change everything.
Your six human needs are your core motivators in your behaviors and actions. As you began to replicate the behavior in order to achieve a similar result, your patterns emerged, and from there your patterns turned into habits. Good or bad, which is mostly subjective perspective, you continued on this behavior path until you were or are sick and tired of being sick and tired.
We are going back into the vault, episode number three, and diving back into the deep end to re-familiarize ourselves with how these core human needs are at the center of your actions and behaviors.
You will bring into your awareness how they led you into addiction and how you can now utilize them to lead you into the awesome that is your sobriety and recovery journey.
After today, well, nothing will ever be the same...if you take this material and actually apply it into your life. Knowledge is not power. It is the application of knowledge where the power resides and it is time for you to take it by the fist and charge forward with your conscious mind's approval that your life is infinitely better when you wake up sober.

You attach meaning to words
Wednesday Apr 13, 2022
Wednesday Apr 13, 2022
Ep #160 - We have covered a lot about the meaning of words, the human experience, and our programming over the last month and to wrap up this story arch we finish by discussing how you, and your mind, attach meaning to the words you use, hear, and experience in your life.
Words are just words. They have definitions that help us all agree on what a word means so we can communicate, yeah, this just in...that's pretty close to the definition of language. Once the definition of a word is established, you inevitably attach a meaning to a word based on what you feel inside yourself when you hear the word. From there you have a way of saying the word to yourself and out loud - this can be in tone, volume, and cadence. The picture you create in your mind when you hear or use the word has a huge influence on the trigger it evokes in you.
Triggers are not all doom and gloom. Someone says, "I love you," and the meaning you have attached to the word love evokes the particular feeling you have associated with the word love. Timing of the, "I love you," matters too. Is it after they did something nice for you or after they wronged you in some way?
There are so many layers to the feelings we have associated to words because we have heard them so many times from so many people. As a child we have little comprehension of what love really means. We are taught by our parental figures what love is supposed to mean, according to them, and how they articulate their explanation can either help or hinder the child's understanding - and this is just the iceberg's tip of the depth to which I could write about the meaning of love and the levels of it's deciphering are to numerous to write here.
The key takeaway here is that words have meanings, which you know, but what you might not be as aware of is that your feeling will not be exactly like anyone else's nor will theirs be yours. It's not possible. The picture you have associated with the word "love" will change per person using it toward you as well. AND this is just or the word "LOVE!"
