Ep #287: Most of us will not remember today over any other day. Most days are just another day in our lives. When you allow your emotions in the moment to dictate your behaviors, you can betray the promises you've made to yourself. Here's the deal. We forget so much about our lives. It's part of the brain's ability to store things in the unconscious so every little detail of our lives doesn't burden our conscious. So use this to your advantage when your life wants you to make the hard decision. To not use, to not drink, to not gamble, shop, porn, eat your life away - make the hard decision at the moment because you won't remember this day in three days, seven days, or 27 days from now anyway. Make the decision that moves you forward and start deciding right now that your emotions are not in control of you. You are in control of them. You are in control of your mind. Therefore, you are in control of your results.
Sobriety isn't easy. Hell, life isn't easy. It is our perspective that dictates to us our perception. Decide today to do the hard thing because you will forget today one day anyway. Your future self will thank you and love you for doing the hard thing.

I believe that our entire life is built upon habit loops, and the behavioral loops repeat over and over and over again. Today, I will give you my breakdown of how to remedy any behavior and habit you seek to change for the betterment of your life. This will help you in every aspect of your life. The steps are as follows:
1. Locate the habit
2. Evaluate the habit
3. Dissect the habit
4. Reconstruct the habit
5. Replicate the habit
6. Measure the results
7. Track the results
8. Direct yourself toward the goal
9. Take Action
10. Discipline
11. Continuous reflection and evaluation

Ep #285: Money can be a huge stressor. How much do you make? Where are you spending it? Can you save any, or are you living paycheck to paycheck? Do you have ample funds, yet you find yourself unable to set aside any for retirement, savings, vacations, or other things you want that would add to your life?
I know about debt. I started this year with $30,000 in debt, and I swore to myself that I would not wake up even one dollar in debt on New Year's Day of 2025. I know from having hundreds of conversations with listeners that money and the stress that comes with thinking about it so often can be a leading cause of triggers toward the lapse that sends lives backward.
Getting out of debt is not an overnight solution. It took you time to get into the hole, and it will take you time to work your way out of it. That is the keyword, "working your way out of it." When you decide to get your finances in order, it will take decisiveness, determination, and discipline to find your way to the other side, AND that is what sobriety and recovery are all about. Day by day, we all find a way, and your mindset about money is about to shift.

I will also delve into the idea that easy decisions often lead to a challenging life, while tough choices can afford us our best future. I toss in the 'crab bucket' phenomenon, where individuals can be pulled down by their environment when attempting to change. We also contrast the temptation of immediate pleasures, like donuts and pizza, with the long-term health benefits of choosing broccoli and fish - metaphorically, because I am not against sugar, I LOVE SUGAR. Throughout the episode, I'll highlight how often people lose sight of their ultimate goals by getting caught up in the moment instead of emphasizing the importance of viewing actions as stepping stones toward a desired outcome. I'll also explore the progression from curiosity to interest, then passion, and finally purpose, underscoring the significance of understanding the deeper 'why' behind our actions. I will encourage you in this episode, that is for sure. What you choose to do from there is all up to you and your willingness to reflect on your life choices and the impacts of those choices on your future.

Ep #282: Judging oneself is the harshest criticism because it sounds like our voice, in our heads, telling us we can not achieve something we desire for ourselves. Teaching yourself to reject those self-critiques and take the next smallest step toward your "meant-to-be" is where the magic of addiction recovery lives. Saying yes or saying no is determined by your subjective perspective of the potential outcome. Will this lead me toward who I want to be, or might it lead me back to the me I am sick and tired of and have told myself this much thousands of times? You are in charge of your mind; therefore, you are in charge of your results. Get into your body, and take charge of your health. Grow your emotional mindset by relinquishing automatic negative thoughts and instant gratification. Learn from doing not daydreaming about it. Your very essence is pushing you forward. Stop being the one holding yourself back.

Ep #280: Somedays, I am surprised I hold it all together. Today is not one of those days. Today, anxiety and inner judgment are running rampant, and rather than act like everything - I think it best to talk it through with y'all. It is okay not to be okay. We all have those days when sobriety isn't enough for today to be the best day. Know you are not alone. You are part of this gigantic Earth experiment we call human-ness. Breathe, reset your Vegas nerve, hug yourself, get on your feet, and move your body - whatever you do, please believe that even the toughest days are there to support your recovery. It's like the parent being hard on you. It may not feel like love at the moment, and it may not be love at all, but there is a lesson there, and when we grasp it, learn it, and integrate it - at least the pain of the day paves the way for better days ahead.

In the context of sobriety and recovery, adopting roles that promote healthy behaviors and offer supportive relationships can significantly enhance an individual's ability to maintain sobriety and navigate the recovery process effectively. In contrast, roles that perpetuate stress and anxiety or involve exposure to substance use can hinder progress and potentially lead to relapse.
