Love and accept yourself, change the behavior
Wednesday May 12, 2021
Wednesday May 12, 2021
Ep 115 - Accepting who you used to be is a huge step toward the self-worth we seek to internalize in our addiction recovery. This means feeling into the love you have for yourself or perhaps it means, to you, loving yourself for the first time in a long time. Our behaviors are not who we are nor are they who we were. We behaved the way we did because we were being run by unconscious programming that manifested from our sufferings, traumas, and the ill-programming laid upon us by our influencers.
When you really step into accepting yourself, even though your behaviors were not what you would recall as being based in integrity - we can continue on the journey of addiction recovery.
Accept the person, change the behavior. We so often judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their actions. We can start, today, the act of releasing judgment and instead accept the person, and ourselves. Judging doesn't do much good when we are all living in glass houses.

Happiness doesn't have to be stress and anxieties victim
Tuesday May 04, 2021
Tuesday May 04, 2021
Ep 114 - Don't release what makes you happy when stress and anxiety constrict around you. When emotions overwhelm some people find themselves laid up in bed or on the couch unable to get up and do much of anything. The irony of that lack of action is that the very thing that you loved to do before the funk, the stress, and/or the depression laid you up is the very thing that can begin to lift you out of that cavern.
What do you really, really, really enjoy doing? Writing, walking, exercising, cooking, talking with loved ones, hanging with your pet, creating, reading - I will stop now with the examples because you get the point.
When you are stressed out, or whatever emotion has you by the ear, not doing the thing that make you the happiest is a double disservice. One, you are missing out on the things that bring you joy, and two, you are digging yourself in deeper when the ladder out is so clearly obvious to you - do the things that bring you joy and happiness.
There might be some of you who read that and think, "dude, you have no idea the depths of anxiety that I can dig myself into." I am sorry that is your state of mind. I am even more sorry that you are choosing that for yourself. YOU. CHOOSE. THAT.
Personal responsibility, self awareness, and self management are key components to getting a handle on your emotions and empowerment in your emotional intelligence.
Just hit play and let's see where we go with this today.

Rethinking Happiness
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Ep 113 - Is happiness an emotion, a mood, a state of mind? I have said, many times, that I think seeking happiness is a fool's errand because emotions are fleeting and constantly making it your goal to be happy would require you to always be in the emotion of happy - and the human experience doesn't open us up for happiness 100% of the time.
What if happiness has been a state of mind all along? What if one book, one sentence, could begin the journey of a 11,500 steps toward a more empowered way to understand, apply, and evaluate happiness in my life. What if today you and I journeyed down the road less traveled and forged our own path toward our own definition of happiness.
I love how my unconscious mind directs me to broaden my awareness, and today I will bring you along for the ride, as we unravel happiness as a way of being and not the emotional state it can often be and not be.
Is happiness an emotion? Is it a mood? Is it a state of mind? Perhaps it is the chameleon of emotions and it is all of them and none of them at the same time. Interest piqued? Perfect...just hit play.

Creativity as your gateway toward your empowered recovery
Thursday Apr 22, 2021
Thursday Apr 22, 2021
Ep 112 - Creativity is an inherent desire every human strives to fulfill within themselves. How we define creativity could use some clarification and I am here to guide you toward that outcome.
I reference the Netflix movie, "The Creative Brain," so for a more in-depth discussion on this topic I encourage you to head over there and check it out. It talks very openly on topics of creativity, open-mindedness, and rehabilitation of humans utilizing creative outlets.
If your sobriety has grown stale I highly recommend that you step into your natural creativity and create something for yourself - right now, today, right...NOW.

Curiosity, Interest, Passion, Purpose
Wednesday Apr 07, 2021
Wednesday Apr 07, 2021
Ep 111 - Do you feel the desire inside you to heed the call of your purpose. Having a clear view and embracing what sparks you up and seeking it out - that is your purpose calling you. It is the solid feeling that your journey is not bound by a destination, rather by the experiences that come from truly living in your seat of wise-minded empowerment.
My sobriety reintroduced me to the things I had been passionate about for decades but had released to the degradation of my addiction. Likewise, you are in the position to go back in time, to when curiosity and interest fed you new experiences that left an impact and gradually grew into passions.
Curiosities, Interests, Passions, and Purposes will come and go, will change and grow, will ebb and flow with your learnings, growth, and lifelong evolution. Passions are inwardly focused. Purposes are externally focused.
It is up to you to recognize the fork in your river. Take notice when life is offering you a huge opportunity to leap into a new way of being. Fire this off inside of you by discovering what lights up your curiosities and flames into interests. From your interests your passions will blossom. From your passions your purpose will be engulf your being.
When it is time to seek that which is seeking you the self discovery that you will undergo, if you choose to accept this journey, will empower you in ways you hadn't imagined. Very little of what I have accomplished today was seeded until after I stepped into sobriety. If you think you can or if you think you can't - you are right.

Why on earth would you ever want to go backwards?
Wednesday Mar 31, 2021
Wednesday Mar 31, 2021
Ep 110 - I am not looking forward to this moment, to this action, but I am looking forward to the aftermath, what I will receive or become after I do this or this is done to me.
This quote from the Yellowstone TV show sparked me to bring this topic to you around my principle of 'Be Decisive.'
You have a choice, every second of your life, to do one thing or do another. Going backwards and using again IS NOT the only choice. You are empowered. You know there are better ways to heal through your suffering. You are not oblivious to this idea, nor are you able to unring the bells that you have heard during this show.
Why on earth would you ever want to go backwards? You have all the choices in front of you when you step into sobriety and journey into addiction recovery. Going backwards...we already know the choices that are waiting for us back there - AND this quote doesn't just go hand in hand with our coping mechanisms around using and abusing. This topic is for you when you are thinking of a negative behavior that you know will bring you an undesirable outcome. Perhaps it's a conversation that goes sideways when you yell, perhaps its a sitting on the couch when you know you really want to be healthy and walking is good for you. The infinite hypotheticals, that are actually our very real life examples, are too numerous to keep writing here.
Going backwards is something to be mindful of every day of your life, sobriety or not, the only time you even need to look backwards is to learn the lesson that experience taught you, take it in, and then leave it in the past where it belongs.
Your future is being written every second of your life. You are the author. Write new things. Don't be like Hollywood and keep writing the same drivel with a different title and a new star attached.
You are better than that. It's time you show yourself this is a fact.

Your self-worth is created internally
Wednesday Mar 24, 2021
Wednesday Mar 24, 2021
Ep 109 - Self esteem comes from external validation, whether it be from what you see in the mirror, the things you have accumulated, or from another person telling you how they feel about something you have done or accomplished for yourself or them.
Self-worth is valuing yourself through yourself. When you realize you have value and that you matter, to yourself above all others, then you are in control of your mind, your results, and your self-worth.
Are you seeking external validation when internal validation is what will actually lift you up into the empowered state we all seek in sobriety and addiction recovery?
You have worth. You matter. What do you value in yourself? What matters to you? Are you feeding that part of yourself each and everyday. Put the oxygen mask on yourself or you won't be able to help others.
You matter. You have value. I can externally remind you of this but I can not help you internalize it and believe it. That comes from your own self-work on yourself. You create and build your self-worth - I can instigate but you have to do the work yourself.
It is possible because you have already started doing it - now let's do it with focused intention of attention.

Adult Ego vs Kid Ego
Wednesday Mar 17, 2021
Wednesday Mar 17, 2021
Ep 108 - In this episode we are going to discuss how the Adult Ego interacts with the Kid Ego. Some might call the Kid Ego the id because the id is where the impulsivity of a human comes from and when you think of a kid do you also think of an impulsive human? Probably, yes.
Ego develops from the id and ensures that the impulses of the id can be expressed in a manner acceptable in the real world. Great, so now you are reminded of the psychological definition of ego. The ego functions in the conscious, preconscious, and unconscious mind. So the ego is all up in your head.
I want to frame the Adult Ego as the part of you that knows you have responsibilities to tend to in order to become your highest, empowered self. The Kid Ego wants fun now, now, now - and as people in sobriety and addiction recovery we know all too well the dangers of seeking fun, fun, fun right now, now, now over being "responsible" and getting our stuff done.
The Kid Ego can be acknowledged and will be paid the attention it has earned, by sitting quietly and waiting its turn, after we get done what we said to ourselves we will get done.
I will admit, I go off the rails a couple time, but I know you are patient and partly enjoy my "soapbox sermons" and "de-railing diatribes" so you are in for a treat today my friends!

The meanings we make about our life as an addict
Wednesday Mar 10, 2021
Wednesday Mar 10, 2021
Ep 107 - Humans are meaning making machines so it is only natural that we would seek to make meaning out of why we chose the path of addiction over alternate paths that were also in front of us - whether we saw them or not, they were there.
In this episode we will discuss...
1. How we make meaning out of everything to give it a meaning, structure, and an order to the chaos that is the human experience.
2. Respecting other's model of the world (point of view)
3. Your map is not the territory. The words you use to describe a person, place, thing, or event is not what everyone else is or will experience.
We're gonna go down the rabbit hole. You are after all on episode 107, so by now I think you have happily taken the red pill. Let's go inside the matrix and make meaning out of everything we have gone through in our journey to get to this place where are in today.
This is gonna be a freaking blast!

Thursday Mar 04, 2021
Thursday Mar 04, 2021
Ep 106 - Life is a series of goals set and goals accomplished or, unfortunately, goals not achieved. Let's discuss the fortitude you have inside of you right now that when harnessed will lead you to the wise minded sense of self and the empowerment that comes with it.
The smallest next step will add up to thousands and thousands of steps and then you look back and it's like, "how did I get her," and, "thank you internal compass for guiding me to this new life."
My online course, Wise Mind Empowerment, is live and available to you. Hit me up on IG and let's talk about how to get you in and especially how this can guide you to the life you have always wanted.
