In this week's episode we discuss why physically going and experiencing events with those closest to you is of the utmost importance. You can't just hide in your house, away from all the triggers, and expect to live any kind of life. Get together with your support system and plan an excursion that will open your mind and eyes to the very real fact that you can go places sober where you once only went wasted.
I just got back from a 3-day Phish run and it was amazing. I spent a lot of time "dipping my toe" back in the scenes where I used to get my most plastered. It takes time to systematically desensitize yourself from thinking you can't go to the events and places you once did without being intoxicated.
Everyone has their own journey, everyone must decide what they can never do again and what they desire to experience again - just in a new state of mind.
Here are some things to ask yourself about the ones you want to experience life with the most:
- Whom do you have in your corner?
- How are you connecting with them?
- What ways do you bond?
-
How are you maintaining activity with them?
- How is this a part of your sobriety?
- What is important to you?
- Why are you giving your time?
- What if things go well or sideways?
Thank you so much for listening and being a part of this wonderfully supportive community. No longer are we living in the shadows!
