In this week's episode we discuss how our feelings and emotions are a vital component of our addiction recovery and how are addictive behaviors can rear themselves in other areas of our lives besides using and getting intoxicated.
I am diving deep into my emotional well this week to really bring out my vulnerability and the confusion I have inside myself when my actions don't bring about the intended response. We are the leaders of our own addiction recovery journey and prioritizing our own needs and self-care is what will fill ourselves up on the inside, so we can be 100 percent present and selfless when we show up for those important to us.
Some of my thoughts on feelings and emotions:
Feelings are driven by thoughts which are triggered by an event/circumstance/or happening
- we decide how to think about an event that happens to us, around us, etc.
- we decide how to feel about that thought
- we create our world from our thoughts and the feelings we have about those thoughts.
Some of my thoughts on addiction and cross-addiction:
How do you know if you are addicted?
- Do you continue an activity even though it causes negative consequences in your life?
- Has a behavior become uncontrollable - so even when you know what you are about to do will probably not end up well you continue anyway?
What is cross-addiction:
- When the addict turns the addictive behavior toward something besides the preferred vice.
Thank you so much for listening and being a part of this wonderfully supportive community. No longer are we living in the shadows!
